Schedule & Activities

Worship at Peace Church of the Brethren starts every Sunday at 11 a.m., preceded by Church School (for adults) and Sunday School (for children of school age) beginning at 9:30.  The adult Church School has been reading Barbara Kingsolver's book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.

•On March 17, the Young Adults will have their annual St. Patrick's Day get-together.

The Peace Garden community garden behind the church building, is being cultivated again this year. Learn more about community gardens at Friends of Portland Community Gardens, many of whose members volunteered their time and energy in installing the Peace Community Garden. If you're interested in taking advantage of their gardening expertise, click on the link and join them.

We continue our First Sunday celebrations at worship on April 4, which coincides this year with Easter Sunday.  We'll have our annual Easter Sunday Breakfast and auction to benefit Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief. All Church of the Brethren members, associates and friends are especially invited to attend worship at Peace Church on the first Sunday of every month.

Holy Week activities include Love Feast on Maundy Thursday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. If you haven't experienced this solemn gathering that is at the heart of the Church of the Brethren denomination, make plans to attend. In addition to the traditional worship and sop meal, we remember and re-enact the foot-washing of the Last Supper detailed in the Gospel of John.

This year's Souper Bowl Sunday was a tremendous success, putting together enough soup packets for our friends at Snow-Cap to feed 13 people a day, every day throughout the year. Click on the link to learn more about Snow-Cap and the terrific work they do in our community.

Portland Peace Church of the Brethren, produces a 30-minute community television program each month known as "Brethren Voices."

DVD copies of the programs are available from Peace Church for a donation of $8.00 each.

The April program will be shown in Portland on: Wednesday, April 8 @ 9:00 PM on channel 21;  Sunday, April 19 @ 4:00 PM on channel 21 and Saturday, April 25 @ 9:00 AM on Channel 11.

The program is also viewed across the country in the communities of La Verne, CA., Westminster, MD; York, PA; Dayton, Ohio; Richmond, IN; Kent, WA; Springfield, OR. If you want further information, contact producer Ed Groff.

•Camp Myrtlewood prepares for another year of hosting camps and retreats, and in anticipation, the annual Memorial Day Work Weekend beckons volunteers of all ages and abilities to help clear brush and trails, chop back the greenery, and generally spiff up the grounds for the summer season.
